Traffic in Highgate
The Highgate Society is often contacted by residents about traffic speeds and congestion. We are therefore investing in a citizen powered solution to provide open access traffic data using Telraam sensors which are small devices about half the size of a mobile phone.
They continuously monitor and count passing traffic, including large and small motorised vehicles, two wheeled traffic such as cyclists, and pedestrians. They also provide statistical information on vehicle speeds. Although the devices are positioned in resident windows, anonymity and privacy is assured because exact street locations are not disclosed publicly, and the images captured are very low resolution and not retained by us or Telraam.
So far, we’ve installed two devices in Highgate, and are at the stage of testing and gaining experience. To find the data being recorded so far in Highgate you will need to navigate on the Telraam website using the online map. We expect to have further devices installed shortly and to provide more information in our December newsletter.
