This group has been working together since 2011, under the name of the Sustainable Homes Group, but has now evolved into the Sustainable Living Group.
We have held many events around making houses more comfortable and more energy efficient. We are now relaunching as the Sustainable Living Group but we also want to communicate some of the information and ideas that have guided our work since 2011. Being energy-aware when carrying out any kind of work on property – whether it’s a new building, a full-scale refurbishment, doing up your kitchen, or simply redecorating – can make a significant difference to both comfort levels and energy costs. Making a wise decision now will bring benefits for many years to come.
The Highgate Society Sustainable Homes group aimed to help find the inspiration and information to make energy-aware choices.
We hope the information and links here will meet the different needs of householders and property owners across Highgate, taking into account the policies of the four boroughs: Camden, Haringey, Islington and Barnet.
And for those who don’t want to embark on a big energy initiative, there are plenty of small and inexpensive measures that will help keep the winter chills out and the energy bills down.
About the Sustainable Living group
Our core team is made up of people with professional backgrounds in energy efficiency and carbon reduction strategies: architecture and urban planning, sustainable energy, environmental advocacy, communications and conference organization. Most of us have already taken steps to introduce significant energy efficiency and/or renewable energy measures in our own homes, and to attempt to live a lower carbon life.
Together we have created the 21Century Homes concept, working with local groups, particularly the Muswell Hill Sustainability Group (MHSG) on events that showcase local and national products with the theme of ‘character, comfort and low carbon’.
