Highgate Society launches Townsend Yard petition

An enormous amount of work has been done by the Highgate Society, in conjunction with others, in relation to this development.  For those who don’t know so much about the background the present position is that Haringey has granted planning permission and listed building consent for a development of a row of 7 houses.  That fills the site to such an extent that there is no room for large vehicles (contractors lorries, rubbish lorries, fire brigade pumps and ladders) to turn, there is no (essential) rear fire escape for residents of Shepherds Cottage, and there are other unresolved issues.  This petition concentrates on fire safety as being an obviously serious unresolved issue.  The Society’s position has been and is that a development with a smaller number of houses would solve this and several other problems.
