Highgate School – progress with workshops
Building on the outcome from the Public Meeting in June 2023, we have continued to push forward the programme of workshops, and the Kings Foundation have been appointed as facilitators. Resident views continue to be relevant. You can contact the Secretary of the Highgate Society secretary@highgatesociety.com to be put in touch with the individual representing your street.
Other material about the Highgate School planning applications, are on our Campaign page here.
The Society has two roles: first, we have coordinated the local groups which comprise Highgate Neighbourhood Forum, Highgate Conservation Area Advisory Committee, Southwood Lane Residents Association, Kingsley Place Residents Association and Broadlands Road Residents Association. Second, our Planning group, have been involved in undertaking their usual detailed and thorough reviews of the planning applications, and will in the workshops make the case for changes where they see the need.
On 17 April a preliminary meeting was held to make arrangements for the workshops to discuss the Highgate School developments. The meeting included representatives from the resident groups, as well as Highgate School. Dates were set for workshops in June, July and September.
The first workshop will consider the School’s development strategy and overarching issues: including the timeframe for the developments, construction management, hydrology and communications during the period of the workshops. The second will consider sustainability, including the plans for Far Field. The third will consider the plans for Dyne House and for the Science Block. The fourth will consider the plans for the Mallinson centre and the Richards Music Centre. Then there will be a final roundup and review workshop.
The purpose of the workshops is consultative, so that the School is fully informed of the views of the local community. It may be that the School will revise some or all of its plans. In any event no-one will be legally bound by the results of the workshops, and people will be free to make whatever representations they still wish to about the School’s plans. We shall provide progress updates through this newsletter.
If you do not know the individual representing the interests of the residents in your street, or of your business, at the workshops, you can contact the Secretary of the Highgate Society secretary@highgatesociety.com to be put in touch with them.
