Historic telephone boxes repainted

The Community Projects Group is delighted to report that British Telecom has responded positively to a request the group made and has repainted all eight of the historic red telephone boxes in the immediate area, pictured below. These iconic boxes stand in Highgate Road, Laurier Road, Pond Square (both the south and north side) and Highgate Hill (all the older K2 boxes), and North Hill, Hampstead Lane and Hornsey Lane (the newer K6 boxes). The K2 was Sir Giles Gilbert Scott’s original design, introduced in 1926 and used mainly in London, while the K6 followed in 1935 to mark King George V’s Silver Jubilee and went on to become the classic red telephone box seen right across the country. Our Community Projects volunteers keep a regular watch on all eight for any signs of damage and liaise with BT whenever any repairs are needed that we cannot manage ourselves.
