The Star, Chester Road
Two local councillors have launched a petition for the Star pub in Chester Road to be relisted as an Asset of Community Value (ACV). The Highgate Society fully support keeping a pub in this location, and encourages residents to support it.
An ACV protects a building which is valuable to the community in its existing or recent use and gives the community “first refusal” on the asset if the owner decides to sell. It can also be a material consideration if any planning application is made for a change of use. For example, a few years ago, the Highgate Society applied for and was granted ACV status for Upstairs at the Gatehouse theatre in Highgate. The ACV helped secure the continuation of the theatre during and following the transition to a new owner.
The Lord Palmerston on the corner of Dartmouth Park Hill and Chetwynd Road and the Duke of St Albans on the corner of Swains Lane and Highgate Road both operate successfully but are some distance away. So a pub here on the corner of Bertram Street and Chester Road should work. The petition link is here https://www.change.org/p/help-us-protect-the-star-pub
