Parking permits in Haringey
Haringey have put forward planned changes for resident and visitor parking. The proposals involve several administrative changes and increases in charges, most of which are not contentious. However we do not support the removal of all day parking permits, and we’re pleased to hear that this change may be dropped. It had been proposed that instead of being able to use all day permits, residents would need to provide their visitors, tradesmen and others with hourly permits – and these would have been limited to 40 hours a year. The arrangement would have disproportionately impacted areas where there are all day restrictions from 8am to 6.30pm, requiring a total of 10 and a half hours of permits – less than four days a year. Parking by builders for any significant works or visitors arriving by car would be very difficult. Most of Highgate has restrictions for just two hours a day and so the impact would be limited but Priory Gardens near Highgate station has all day parking. However many areas in the east of the borough which are typically less privileged have all day parking and so the proposals would impact badly on these disadvantaged areas.
We understand that there has been recognition of the unfairness of the 40 hour limit, but the Haringey Consultation website still includes the proposal for a 40 hour limit. See https://new.haringey.gov.uk/parking/consultations-parking/have-your-say-our-proposed-parking-policy-changes The consultation deadline has now closed but you can still write to traffic.orders@haringey.gov.uk
