Swains Lane roundabout
.
Although there was a significant number of objections to attaching the name of Boris Nemtsov, a Russian dissident killed in Moscow in 2014, to the small roundabout at the bottom of Swain’s Lane, Camden still held a reduced naming ceremony at the roundabout on the morning of 14 November. The Society does not object to the principle of naming the roundabout after a Russian dissident, but objects to the lack of effective local consultation. The impression given throughout has been that the decision to name the roundabout had effectively already been taken before the formal consultation. In a joint letter the Chair and Secretary of the Society set out the Society’s position. The correspondence can be seen here.
Our objective is for there to be a recognition from the top in Camden of the importance of consulting locally on issues of local relevance and allowing the time for this to be done properly.
