Our requests of candidates in the 7 May local elections
The local elections in May are an opportunity to make our case for pledges from the candidates standing, and there are two areas we’ve focused on: better engagement and connection when key projects are involved; and better communication across the borough boundary. With these objectives in mind, the Highgate Society and the Highgate Neighbourhood Forum came together and jointly wrote to all political parties and candidates in the May 2026 local elections asking them to adopt five pledges, which we believe will work for the benefit of residents, businesses, and Councils.
They focus on understanding each other’s objectives, priorities and constraints so that through discussion areas of disagreement can be narrowed. We know of other Councils where these discussions work better. The Society’s and Neighbourhood Forum’s requests for candidate and party pledges are here: We’ve been very encouraged by the response so far, from candidates on both sides of the Haringey – Camden border.
