Suggestions needed to spend £60,000 in Highgate (Haringey) ward
Haringey are requesting suggestions on how to spend £60,000 available for the Highgate (Haringey) ward in the Community Infrastructure Levy fund. The deadline for responses is 16 January 2026. Elsewhere in the borough CIL expenditure has included a new pedestrian crossing and the Highgate Society has suggested improvements to the crossing between Channing Junior School and the former Lussmans restaurant.
The signal controlled crossing between the former Lussmans restaurant and Channing Junior School:
- has no build out and so the crossing itself is too wide, and not in line with modern standards
- elderly residents are sometimes not be able to cross before the lights change
- the traffic lights are sometimes concealed or have low visibility especially for vehicles travelling in a north west direction on Highgate Hill towards the High Street
- the crossing is between the two parts of Channing School and so is used extensively by children who have to cross for some activities
- the road is unnecessarily wide here (and also further south east) and the nearby Haringey side pavement should be widened to improve pedestrian safety and flow
- a wider pavement / narrower road will discourage speeding which is an issue here
