Finding out about licensing applications
Until 22 September Haringey is consulting on its revised Licensing Policy. This is the policy for pubs, off licences, licensed restaurants and late-night eating places of all sorts.
At present if a business in Haringey applies for a licence, or for a change in their licence like longer hours or larger premises, they only have to put a small notice on their door or window and an advertisement in a local paper. These can be easily missed until too late and, where there is no objection made in time, licensing applications are usually granted.
Camden has an arrangement where residents and businesses can sign up to be notified of any applications in their Council Ward. The link is at
https://accountforms.camden.gov.uk/alert-web/select.xhtml?alertType=LICENCE_APPLICATIONS.
The Highgate Society is signed up to this and it works well.
Haringey notify Ward councillors but have no arrangement for local residents and businesses to sign up to be notified, although it would be very easy for them to introduce such a system.
If you are a Haringey resident and would like to be able to be notified about licensing applications near you, then do respond to the consultation by asking them to introduce an arrangement like Camden’s. You are invited to have your say at https://haringeylicensing.commonplace.is/.
