Highgate is one of the ‘northern heights’ of London, set between Hampstead and Muswell Hill. Despite having a distinctive identity and a historic village centre, Highgate is divided between boroughs with the boundary between Haringey and Camden running down the middle of the High Street. The Highgate Neighbourhood Forum bridges this administrative divide and defines Highgate as covering an area similar to the N6 postcode.

Highgate is perhaps most famous for its cemetery on the southern slopes of the hill. The grave of Karl Marx is a visitor favourite. There are many more places worth a visit and the Highgate Society has a booklet listing these as one of the Northern Heights walks series. Notably Lauderdale House, the Highgate Literary and Scientific Institution, Upstairs at the Gatehouse, Jacksons Lane and Lux provide local cultural hubs.

The two principal shopping streets are the Archway Road and the High Street, each offering customers a variety of opportunities from cafes and pubs to food shopping and a variety of boutiques and services.

Highgate is a place for all ages with a number of schools both state funded and private.

Highgate is blessed with many green spaces including Hampstead Heath and Kenwood, Waterlow Park, Highgate and Queens Woods, and the Parkland Walk along with more hidden gems such as the Highgate Bowl area.
