Society members in Highgate clean up
The Highgate Society has been busy with some recent tidy ups around Highgate. Following several events the Society organised in April to mark the national Great British Spring Clean Campaign, a group met at Highgate Station on Saturday 4th August. The ten-strong team collected a large amount of rubbish from the land between Priory Gardens and Shepherds Hill. Local Police Officers Allan Greig and Assane M’Baye joined the group and explained the range of issues with areas of wooded land, ranging from fly tipping to anti-social drinking or drug taking. The group had been in touch with TFL separately to discuss how best to clean up the land behind the fences on the path from Archway down to the Priory Gardens entrance to the station. TFL are able to take on this cleaning job which regular users of that path will appreciate. The team used the Highgate Society’s recently-acquired stock of litter picker sticks which go a long way to sparing backs and knees. Plans for the next event are being made and suggestions are welcome.
