Carols in Pond
Square
Wednesday 11th December 2019
6.30 pm
Pond Square, Highgate Village, N6
The popular annual sing-a-long, accompanied by the Highgate School Symphonic Band and Concert Choir. After the carols sausage rolls, mince pies and mulled wine will be served at 10A South Grove (opposite the square). Everyone welcome.
There will be a collection for Little Village Camden. Joanna Kennard of the Highgate Society says:
Little Village Camden is based at Somers Town Community Centre in Ossulston Street, Kings Cross, and is like a food bank but for good quality clothes, toys and every kind of equipment for babies and children up to the age of 5 which are donated by other families. These items are given to local families (many single parents) who are dealing with really challenging circumstances – homelessness, unemployment, political asylum seekers, refugees, low wages and domestic violence. Families are sent to the charity by a network of referral partners – health visitors, children’s centres and midwives primarily, but also faith organisations, other charities and public servants.
In addition to giving out the donated items the charity needs money to buy new mattresses, nappies, baby products etc. The centre is mainly run by an army of volunteers although recipients (some of them completely isolated and alone) are also encouraged to volunteer on a Tuesday morning when donations are sorted which gives them an opportunity to meet other people and share experiences.
Referrals come from both Camden and Haringey and many 100\’s of families have been and are continuing to be helped. We thought it was an appropriate charity to support at Christmas because it helps young children with nothing and many of the attendees at Highgate Society Carols are families.
